Learning About Love...

If I had one piece of romantic advice for my daughter, it would be this:
If I could sit you down and talk to you about love - really talk, heart to heart - this is what I’d say.
You’re going to love deeply. I can already tell. You have a soft heart and a beautiful way of seeing the world, and that means you’ll feel things fully. You’ll dream big, believe in people, and probably fall a little too hard sometimes.
And that’s not a weakness. That’s something rare.
But love… love is not simple.
It’s powerful and complicated. It can feel magical one moment and completely overwhelming the next. And when it’s real - when it’s truly right - it’s worth everything. Just don’t rush to call something love before it’s had the chance to prove itself.
Because love isn’t just a feeling.
It’s trust.
It’s being seen for exactly who you are.
It’s choosing someone - and being chosen - without pretending to be anything else.
You’ll experience so many kinds of love in your life. The kind you share with friends, the kind that feels like family, the kind that changes you, and the kind that teaches you.
Learn to recognize them. All of them matter.
But when it comes to that deep, consuming kind of love - the one that makes your heart race and your world feel different - be careful with it. That kind of love deserves intention.
Don’t give it away too easily.
Be selective. Be honest with yourself. Don’t fall in love with someone’s potential or who you hope they’ll become. Pay attention to who they are right now. The right person won’t require you to shrink yourself or stretch beyond recognition just to make things work.
Love should feel like a fit - not a constant effort to become someone else.
And when you do find something real, something steady and true - hold it with care. Show up for it. Invest in it. Let yourself feel it fully.
But also understand this, even if it’s hard: not every love is meant to stay.
Some people come into your life to teach you something. Some are there for a chapter, not the whole story. And walking away doesn’t mean you failed - it sometimes means you respected yourself enough to choose what’s right for your future.
That, too, is love.
So don’t lose faith in it. And don’t lose faith in yourself.
Be brave enough to wait for something real, and to walk away from something that's not.
Be strong enough to keep going when your heart aches.
And when it feels too heavy to carry alone, lean on the people who love you. Let them remind you who you are.
You are never alone in this.
Because this is what we do - we grow, we heal, we keep going. We keep loving, even after it hurts.
And you will too.
Always remember that.
